Outreach Term 1 Report Back 2011

Outreach Term 1 2011 Report Back

The first project we took on this term was taking the 45 pin boards we made in term 4 and handing them over to Constantia Primary school where they were met with much appreciation.

This term we provided two outreach opportunities for Springfield girls, the one being a visit to DARG in Hout Bay where we took along donations of blankets and dog toys to give along with our time and the other, a rewarding visit to Heaven’s Nest, an emergency foster home for children who we also gave donations of facecloths and soap which they are always in need of. The girls enjoyed both visits tremendously and we hope to be able to return to these places again soon.

The portfolio also ran a drive of collecting second hand costumes for a Leap school that is teaching its underprivileged students to swim. Improving the weekly making and giving of sandwiches was one of the aims of the portfolio and we saw great improvement with each week as the different grades got involved and we this will continue next term. A speaker from Justice Acts was organized to come give a presentation and raise awareness on human trafficking.

Lastly the portfolio made and sold Saint Patrick’s Day biscuits and then took part in the cultural portfolios food fair, both of these events raising money for the portfolio. We hope to get in contact with SANCOB next term and ‘adopt a penguin’ for the school which basically entails contributing money so that a rescue penguin can be released into the wild again.
